Comedor is an inconspicuous Mexican-inspired restaurant in downtown Austin. For a few years it was a frequently mentioned high end restaurant that was also common for corporate events given its proximity DT. Parking is limited; there's a pay garage and valet right next door or you can potentially find street parking a few blocks north. The ambiance is very "mood", dark lighting and intimate. The finishes inside are nice and it feels very much like an upscale date night. The food was a mix between good and very good (but not necessarily "great"). I heard their bone marrow tacos were one of the best on the menu and gave it a shot but didn't leave that amazed. It felt a bit overly oily and salted; the mouthfeel was distracting. The pescado tacos were very good, along with the grilled carrots and avocado tostada. Service was very good; the server was sweet when I went 0/2 on desired drink orders so she comp'd me a tea. Expect to pay around $100pp for food and drink to leave satisfied.

This place exceeded my expectations and delivered an all-around fantastic experience. We visited during happy hour and ordered mainly from the happy hour menu--portions were generous and larger than expected. The vibe was perfect, and the bartenders were incredibly friendly and engaging.

Comedor ended up way better than I expected, even though the online menu had me worried about prices and portion sizes. I came with a bachelorette group of 10, and while I was nervous the menu might be too experimental and small for sharing, it worked out perfectly. We ordered almost everything (minus a few dishes due to allergies), usually getting two of each for our group. The steak, shrimp empanadas, and quesadillas were the highlights. The roasted chicken and carrots were fine but skippable compared to the other dishes. Tab came to about $80 per person with a cocktail each, and everyone left full. If you're going to splurge here, bring a group - it's the best way to try the menu.

Overall had a great experience at Comedor! I love the discreet entrance that makes you feel like you're going to an exclusive place that only the coolest people know about. We arrived for our reservation early and we were accommodated right away. Immediately, you can feel a relaxed and romantic ambiance with dim lights and an indoor outdoor feel. The food was very tasty. What really sets the restaurant apart are the house/homemade masa tortillas with several of the main courses. So well made and delicious. We ordered fish tacos, avocado tostada, bone marrow tacos, and half chicken for 5 of us and this was able to fill us up. You have some time in between dishes, so you get fuller than you think. The portions are not large, but you're meant to enjoy it all little by little. The star of the show was definitely the bone marrow tacos. These were some of the biggest pieces of bone marrow I've ever had and was a hefty portion worth the price. The Kale salad bed was insane and makes you want to clear the entire plate. Honorable mentions are the micheladas! Super spicy and sour how I like them. The staff also greeted us with a birthday card for one of our celebrants. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I wish there was a little something extra for the birthday, and if you're hungry and have somewhere to be after, you might find yourself getting a little impatient. But the point is to enjoy time with your party and savor the food when it does come!

Comedor was our first dinner in Austin and I am seriously blown away at the hospitality, food and cocktails. It's never easy to accommodate a large group, but they were awesome with our group of 11. They even wrote a card for my friend celebrating her bachelorette which I thought was so sweet upon being sat down. I got their martini which had gin and tequila to start. It was quite boozy, but so interesting and well balanced. They didn't make us to a pre fixe menu for a group of our size, so we decided to order a ton of items and shared. We ordered two or three of each of the followin +okra - a stand out +crudo- divine + dumplings + fish tacos + steak Overall this spot was delicious and left a good impression. It's easy to miss when you pass by, as there isn't really a sign and the door is black. However, don't miss out on stepping inside!

Blended in like a garage but once you find the entrance the inside looks quaint, classy and cozy. We sat at the communal table but it wasn't too busy so we still had our privacy. We got the avocado tostada as the app. It was light and crisp. Next came the masa dumplings. It came with a tomato based sauce with some cream sauce. The dumplings were very heavy. The fish tacos were perfect and probably our favourite. Fish was fried but not oily and it came with salsa Verde. It had a combo of umami, a lot of texture, a slight heat kick, and just lightly salted. The tamal was also pretty heavy and too buttery for our liking but the prawns were grilled nicely and the corn was pretty smoky. I got a cocktail which was nice and refreshing for a 100 degree weather day. One drink was def enough to get you buzzed. Overall 4/5 stars.

Great food and atmosphere. Service was nice and efficient (shout out Cameron)! You can walk in and be seated between 5-6 without a reservation between Monday and Wednesday. El Cocaeruo - Sweet and milky. Light in color. More desert like but my favorite cocktail even during my a meal. Nublado - You either love or hate this cocktail. Less sweet than the Cocaeruo, but more liquorish forward. Conejo - Nice and sweet with a subtle carrot flavor behind the cilantro Repo Ginger - Refreshing, herbal, and very ginger forward Comedor Martini - Nice martini with a subtle spice Bone marrow tacos - Tied for favorite item on the menu. Rich and savory with a caramelized sweetness Tacos de Pescado (Grouper tacos) - Fabulous fried grouper taco. Tied for favorite dish! Papas Fritas - Crispy potato chunks. Not quite fries, not quite home style. Nice texture with a great sauce. Best salad on the menu Avocado Tostada - Its okay. Nice flavors, but nothing to write home about. Organic Half Chicken - nice and crispy. Not my favorite because it wasn't as juicy as I like my chicken. The skin had a nice flavor though.
